Join Us in Our Music Ministry
Music expresses our love for God, communicates our faith and understanding, and provides ministry to others. At Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, there are a number of opportunities to worship God and serve our neighbor through music by participating in one of our seven ensembles, supporting our Community Concert Series, and/or contributing your gifts and talents to our Community Music Education Initiative.
Our prime directive is to continue to build a ministry featuring music that is diverse, vital, and faithful; to take care of the artists God sends our way; and to promote musical and spiritual growth in all people. We extend an invitation to you to join us in our music ministry.
The Sanctuary Choir
The 55-voice adult choir rehearses Wednesday nights, 7:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m., in the choir room, which is located directly behind the sanctuary. The choir sings a diverse repertoire, representing the sacred classic works, modern church octavos, and choral settings of the Church’s music from around the world. We invite you to visit us on Wednesday nights.
The Master Ringers
The 5-octave, adult handbell choir rehearses Sunday nights, 6:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m., in the handbell rehearsal room, which is located in the church’s E-wing (E-3). The ensemble plays advanced level literature, leading in worship services and playing in the community throughout the year.
Children’s Choirs
Our three children’s choirs meet on Wednesday nights, 6:00–6:45 p.m. During the school year, over 50 children participate in the 4- and 5- year old choir, Music Makers (1st – 3rd graders), and Young Musicians (4th – 6th graders). Age-appropriate curriculum, anthems, and songs are used to teach the children the fundamentals of music. Singing Orff and rhythm instruments and hymnody are at the center of each night. Throughout the year, the choirs sing in worship and other special programs.
Youth Choir
This 20-voice ensemble, open to students 7th – 12th grade, meets on Sunday evenings during the school year, 5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m., in the choir room, which is located in directly behind the sanctuary. The group sings a variety of music and prepares dramatic presentations.
